TERRADA ART STUDIO KYOTO
In April 2022, as the world was shrouded in an atmosphere of unease due to an unprecedented pandemic and the outbreak of war, I set out on a walking journey from Okinawa to Hokkaido.
I pressed on despite excruciating pain in both legs, spending my nights sleeping outdoors. It was a grueling journey, hardly suited to someone like me—an indoor person who rarely exercised.
Yet, no matter how painful it was, I never stopped walking.
In Japan, a nation in the throes of chaos—plagued by natural disasters, a declining birthrate, and a deteriorating economy—there is no end to the sources of anxiety. Yet everyone goes about their daily lives, pretending there is no problem. I felt a profound awe for the resilience of such people.
I, too, wanted to be a person of strength.
The golden vitality that dwells within each and every one of us. In search of that radiance, I kept walking.

Atsushi Fukushima (KYOTOGRAPHIE 2026 Artist)
After graduating from the Photography Department at Osaka University of Arts, Fukushima spent ten years delivering bentos to the elderly. He built a relationship with many of his clients, eventually photographing them for a body of work titled I Deliver Bento Boxes to the Houses of Old People Living Alone. The following year, a photobook of the same title was published by Seigensha. The project won the KG+SELECT Award 2019, and the following year, he held a photography exhibition as part of
KYOTOGRAPHIE’s main programme. Alongside his agricultural work, he is currently working on new projects that speak to the philosophy of life as both powerful and beautiful.
