“Not harmony, but conflict. Not coexistence, but competition. The world woven by the instincts of living creatures is far from idealised beauty. Yet precisely because of this, the world is undeniably chaotic, inseparable, and profoundly beautiful.” — An extract from the book
Atsushi Fukushima, who is currently presenting the exhibition “Under the Burning Sun” at KYOTOGRAPHIE 2026, will release his new photobook “I scramble for Vegetables with Animals in the Fields in the Summer” from Seigensha on May 16.
To celebrate the launch of the publication, a book signing event will be held at the Bookshop of the KYOTOGRAPHIE Information Machiya at Hachiku-an. We warmly invite you to join us.

Speakers Speakers

  • Atsushi Fukushima (KYOTOGRAPHIE 2026 Artist)

After graduating from the Photography Department at Osaka University of Arts, Fukushima spent ten years delivering bentos to the elderly. He built a relationship with many of his clients, eventually photographing them for a body of work titled I Deliver Bento Boxes to the Houses of Old People Living Alone. The following year, a photobook of the same title was published by Seigensha. The project won the KG+SELECT Award 2019, and the following year, he held a photography exhibition as part of KYOTOGRAPHIE’s main program. Alongside his agricultural work, he is currently working on new projects that speak to the philosophy of life as both powerful and beautiful.
