Hachiku-an (Former Kawasaki Residence)
As a special program of KYOTOGRAPHIE, this event takes place in Hachikuan, a historic townhouse with nearly 100 years of history, exploring the current state of photographic expression across generations and devices.
A photographer who has witnessed the transition from film to digital will enter into dialogue with a new-generation artist who has expanded their practice through the use of the iPhone. The event unfolds within an exhibition space featuring works shot and produced entirely on the latest iPhone. By neutralizing differences in devices, it shifts the focus from what you shoot with to what you see and how you perceive.
The talk session will break down the essential elements that constitute photography—light, composition, timing, and editing—making visible the differences in perspective between the two approaches. It will also delve into the process of transforming everyday image-making into a body of work.
Within this historic setting, a dynamic tension emerges between past and present, analog and digital, experience and intuition. At this intersection, we reconsider what photography can become.
