Speakers Speakers

  • Tamaki Yoshida (KG+SELECT Award 2021 Winner/ KYOTOGRAPHIE 2025 Artist)

While working as a commercial photographer for several companies, Tamaki Yoshida started this project in 2018 to examine the unequal relationship that she has long felt exists between humans and nature. Yoshida's style is to explore the relationship between humans, nature, and other living creatures not as a ‘big’ issue, which tends to make it abstract, but from a more close-at-hand, familiar perspective. Currently, she is working on projects on themes such as environmental damage caused by household wastewater and encounters between humans and wild animals, which have become more frequent in recent years. In her work, Yoshida does not focus on the tragic aspects of the relationship between humans and other living creatures, but rather questions why humans cling to certain ways of thinking and unconscious behavior. Her aim is to seek a better balance between people and other living things that inhabit our world.

  • Kazuhiko Matsumura (KG+SELECT Award 2022 Winner)

Born in 1980, Kazuhiko Matsumura joined the Kyoto Shimbun newspaper as a journalist in 2003. He became a photojournalist in 2005, undertaking long-term projects on themes such as 'life', 'social security', and 'care'. He was chosen Asian regional winner in the Open Format category of World Press Photo 2024 for his project 'Heartstrings,' which addressed dementia. He served as project manager for World Press Photo Exhibition 2024 Kyoto (Kyoto Shimbun Former Printing Plant), which was held in Japan for the first time in three years. His previous work, Elusive Rainbow, traced the history of social security in Japan through the life of doctor Kazute- ru Hayakawa. He exhibited at KG+ in 2019.
