Unchanging KYOTO

Kyoto, the birthplace of Japanese cinema, has played an important role in the history of Japanese movies through its film studios and locations. In particular, Kyoto has provided an unchanging cityscape necessary for historical films. When we see Kyoto, looking no differently than it does at present, on the screen of an old movie, we realize that Kyoto is indeed ‘the unchanging city’. I think that Kyoto’s current appearance can still evoke the kind of images seen in old postcards and other old photographs. To verify this, I used old photography equipment to photograph the current city of Kyoto.
