In Conversation with Simon Baker and Tomo Kosuga

The co-curators Simon Baker and Tomo Kosuga discuss Fukase’s first retrospective in Japan. Simon Baker will focus on how Fukase’s works have been gathering global attention, and the director of the Masahisa Fukase Archives, Tomo Kosuga will share the new developments that he and the Archives have been working on.

Simon Baker
Simon Baker is Tate’s first curator of photography, having joined in 2009, prior to which he was Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Nottingham. He writes on photography and contemporary art and has curated the following recent exhibitions: Performing for the Camera (Tate Modern, 2016); Another Language, 9 Japanese Photographers (Arles, 2015); Conflict, Time, Photography (Tate Modern, 2014); William Klein + Daido Moriyama (Tate Modern, 2012).
Tomo Kosuga
Lives and works in Tokyo, JAPAN. Tomo Kosuga is Director of the Masahisa Fukase Archives and is also a freelance art producer, curator and writer who works mainly in the realm of photography. He has curated or co-curated the following exhibitions including Masahisa Fukase: L'incurable Égoïste (Les Rencontres d'Arles, 2017); Roger Ballen, Asger Carlsen: NO JOKE (Diesel Art Gallery, 2017); Masahisa Fukase: The Incurable Egoist (Diesel Art Gallery, 2015); VICE JAPAN: The Global Photo Collaborations (Diesel Art Gallery, 2014); Terry Richardson: Terry Richardson vs. Jackass (Laforet Museum Harajuku, 2008); Bob Richardson (Zel Gallery, 2008).
