Jens Sundheim

Shadows of Distant Truth

KIKA gallery

KIKA gallery presents Dortmund based German phogotrapher Jens Sundheim. In his first solo exhibition in Japan, Sundheim presents Cyanotype and Black and White photographic works that made without camera. Mistrusting photographic devices and lenses that bend and distort light, almost denying even the human eye, these style of works are perhaps the most direct way of pictorially representing reality. However, the resulting images that occurred by chemical reactions, often seem strangely detached from it. Reminiscent of the Greek philosopher Plato and his famous Allegory of the Cave, Sondheim's works suggest that the world all we see are just shadows of a distant truth.
