Kyoto Center for Community Collaboration and KYOTOGRAPHIE Kyoto International Photography Festival have collaborated to present “MACHIYA VISION,” an exhibition presenting a vision for the future of Kyoto’s traditional Machiya townhouses. This exhibition will focus on “Sustainability” and consider the contemporary significance of preserving and passing on the Machiya for people to live connected to culture in the post covid world.

Sadato Kurotake, President of KUROCHIKU Corporation, and Kanako Hamasaki, Board Representative of The Yuhisai Koudoukan Foundation, will join Yusuke Nakanishi, Co-Director of KYOTOGRAPHIE, in a discussion on the preservation and transmission of a wide range of traditional culture with an emphasis on Machiya.
This event will be held as a KYOTOGRAPHIE Public Program and will be archived on YouTube.

Sadato Kurotake

Sadato Kurotake has been advocating for the "Craft Movement for a New Age" since 1974, and winning numerous awards in competitions such as the "Kyoto Craft Exhibition". Later, based on the results of his training in Western countries, he developed a wide range of design fields centring on Japanese culture, including traditional architecture design and regional development. He focuses on the revitalization of Kyomachiya and the revitalization of local communities.
The author of "Reviving Kyomachiya Kurochiku" (Reviving Kyomachiya Kurochiku) published by Mitsumura Suiko Shoin.

The president of the Traditional Culture Produce Union.
Has been involved in many projects related to cultural transmission, including the revival of traditional events and the preservation of architectural structures.
