KG+ Award 2017 and Grand Prix decision

This year’s KG+ AWARD Finalists and Grand Prix winner were announced at the April 16 KG+ opening party. After careful deliberation, the Selection Committee settled upon five Finalists —Tomomi Morita, Mako Mizobuchi, Yuju Chen, Kenji Ushikubo and Sophie Ebrard—and ultimately decided to present the KG+ AWARD 2017 Grand Prix to Kyoto and Tokyo-based artist Tomomi Morita.

Venue: Former Junpu Elementary School

The KG+Award 2107 Grand Prix was awarded to Tomomi Morita, based in Kyoto and Tokyo, confirming his place in KYOTOGRAPHIE 2018. To mark this event, and to introduce more people to the exhibitions held for the KG+ 2017 Award, 9 exhibitions were selected to be shown again at the former Junpu Elementary School, including Morita’s, the Award finalists’, and exhibitions that have since ended. Exhibitions that were originally held at venues other than the former Junpu Elementary School will be spatially reconstructed. It’s Just Love by finalist Sophie Ebrard is being exhibited at FRANKWORK STUDIO near the former Junpu Elementary School, until May 7.

1 exhibition is selected from the KG+ Award candidates. The awarded artist of the exhibition will exhibit at KYOTOGRAPHY International Photography Festival 2018, and receive the following support:
・Max. 500,000 Yen exhibition fee
・Venue fee
・Promotion and publication in the KYOTOGRAPHY International Photography Festival 2018 Catalogue.


Judges of the KG+ Award to visit about 10 exhibitions. Out of those, the winner and Top 3 will be selected.


KG+ Opening. Winner of KG+ Award and Top 3 to be announced at the KG+ Opening Party. Projections of works by KG+ 2017 artists to be shown at party venue.
